Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss and blindness among Americans who are age 65 and older. It will usually affect your central vision causing blind spots. There are both wet and dry forms of Macular Degeneration with dry being the most common.
While there is no way of preventing it, healthy diets and wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV sunlight are important. Diagnosing it is necessary as there can be treatments to help slow down vision loss or at least monitor it. The symptoms are usually hard to recognize as vision loss may be very slow. However, if you are noticing noticeable changes in your vision, you should see your eye doctor as soon as you can.
